A Couple Shades of George Costanza
George Costanza has been a style influence on many sartorial minded men in the last handful of years (and probably further back than that).
George’s style certainly has an Ivy/trad bend to it with button down collars, navy blazers, khaki trousers, Polo Ralph Lauren outerwear, and some of his knitwear as well. Jerry Seinfeld said that he wanted the wardrobe of the show to have a timeless appeal and it shows with George the most.
George pulls off what Ivy, trad, and preppy preach. He wears simple clothes with good proportions, mostly stays away from trends, and makes good use of color.
George’s wardrobe wasn’t meant to be anything special, but it’s funny that he’s the best dressed man on the show, and better dressed than a majority of men today. George is proof that sticking with solid style fundamentals is what classic style is about. His looks have stood the test of time much better than Jerry’s, or Kramer’s, although Kramer looked pretty good as well.
Brown cord sports coat, beautiful collar roll, motif necktie. George is one of the best dressed sitcom characters of all time, and he has some great looks for Autumn and Winter.
George proves that seemingly wearing the same thing all the time can be a great benefit.
